“In the last episode I only had to ride down a river filled with raging rapids on a single log, climb up a 200 foot spruce tree, and climb down two giant cliffs and one waterfall. I hardly even broke a sweat. Frankly, I’m looking for something that will offer me a challenge.”
And that’s why Grylls says he wants to be dropped on the surface of the sun.
Many scientists and outdoorsmen, however, have questioned his decision, citing the sun’s surface temperature of 9,994 degrees as just one possible obstacle.
“It’ll be hot for sure, but I believe I’m up to the challenge,” said Grylls. “The key is not to panic and to take advantage of the situations given to me.
“Frankly, I’m not exactly sure how I’ll get the 93 million miles from the surface of the sun back to earth, but the human will to survive is an amazing thing and I’m counting on it to carry me through.”
Challenge-Starved Bear Grylls Asks To Be Dropped On Surface Of Sun
Grylls: “You can only drink so much of your own urine before you really start to get complacent.”

LONDON—Bear Grylls, star of The Discovery Channel’s hit survivalist program “Man Vs. Wild”, is upping the ante. In every episode the thrill-seeking Grylls is dropped from a helicopter into a remote and harsh region of the world and forced to survive alone and make it back to civilization with nothing more than a knife, a small water bottle, and his giant, elephant-sized balls.
However, the former British Special Forces Lieutenant Commander and Everest-summiter says challenges such as desolate 130-degree deserts in the Australian outback and artic mountains in Iceland during winter have left him bored and unfulfilled.
“You can only eat so many live snakes and drink so much of your own urine before you really start to get complacent,” admitted Grylls.
