He first met the cashier with his standard greeting of "9/11".  Then he proceeded to place an order for his campaign staff by requesting 9 turkey sandwiches and 11 Diet Cokes.  What was particularly odd about his order was the fact that there were only two members of his staff present at the lunch.  Nevertheless, the former mayor was adamant the order be filled, as was he adamant that each sandwich have exactly 9 slices of turkey and 11 pieces of lettuce.

This incident is emblematic of a larger trend with the former mayor.  Giuliani campaign insiders say that his usage of 9/11 has gone well beyond merely being used as a cynical political tool, and that now the former mayor has become completely obsessed with the usage of the date.

"He can't speak a single sentence without referencing 9/11 in some way," said one Giuliani campaign member.  "Conversations about terrorism, family, sports, ponies.  He even convinced my 9 year old daughter that 911 was the answer to all her math problems and even all her English questions.  Now she's flunking school and the district is requiring she be psychologically evaluated."

And it hasn't stopped at that.

"He doesn't use the phone like a normal person anymore.  He just calls 911 and asks to be connected to whoever.  He thinks it's his personal line, dedicated solely to him.  And he talks on the phone a lot.  I can't imagine how many people have died as a result.  But he doesn't see it as a conflict because he believes he owns the fire, ambulance, and police departments as well."

Furthermore, despite that fact that it would likely cost thousands of lives, the insider told us Giuliani plans to force all emergency services to change their emergency call numbers from the simple '911' to the more distinguished '44854864' or 'G-I-U-L-I-A-N-I'.

Political analysts believe this obsession may ultimately hurt his campaign, as he has spent countless hours considering 9/11 political strategies and negotiating 9/11-related legal problems.  He is retroactively suing Chuck D and Flavor Flav for copyright infringement and slander for their usage of 911 in the Public Enemy classic "911's A Joke".  He has contacted multiple 711's to urge them to slightly alter their name.  And there is a rumor that if elected, he will permanently ban the numbers 2 through 8 from all government, scientific, and educational literature.

However, it should be noted that Giuliani himself has not spoken publicly about any details of his 9/11 plans and seems to resent the implication that he has overused or abused the numbers for political gain in any way.

In fact, when we told him about the topic of our story and requested an interview with the former mayor, he flatly told us: "Go 9/11 yourself."
Giuliani Works 9/11 Reference into Sandwich Order at Local Deli
The former mayor prepares to meet with his staff at his campaign headquarters located at ground zero.
By MATTHEW MONROE

SALEM, NH- After a campaign stop at a Salem-area senior center, Rudy Giuliani and members his campaign team stopped into a local deli to grab a quick meal.  The lunch appeared to be like any other on the campaign trial, full of cameras, handshakes, forced small talk with locals, and false courtesy to low-level employees.

However, Giuliani showed what makes him stand out as a strong candidate, even while merely ordering lunch.
