
takes time to build connections. It takes time to call in favors and collect payouts. It takes time to lose your idealism. It takes time to forget why you ran, to forget you constituents. And it takes time to lose your soul.
“We ask that all Americans be patient with us. We vow to screw this up sometime before the presidential election. We will be corrupt by November of ’08. That is our promise. And if we break that promise? Well, that would be kind of corrupt in and of itself.”
But Republicans think that Democrats may be in for a tough road.
Republican Ted Stevens (AK) said, “It’s going to be difficult for the Democrats. We set the standard pretty high. Me, Mark Foley, Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, John Doolittle, Scooter Libby, Larry Craig, not to mention Alberto Gonzalez, Iraq and the Vice President shooting a guy in the face. Frankly, we made Richard Nixon look like Elliot fucking Ness. It’s going to take quite an effort to top us.”
Democrats, however, think that they are up to the task. “I won’t lie to you. It’s going to be tough,” said Sen. Henry Reid (NV). “All the big money donors were with the Republicans. I estimate it will take at least a few months before those same lobbyists suddenly have a change of heart and switch parties.”
But as for now Reid and the rest of the Democrats seem content to wait this “integrity thing” out until they can fulfill their duty to the citizens of the nation:
“It’s what the American people demand. If the party in power doesn’t completely screw up, how will Americans know who to vote against in ‘08?”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The first eight months of Democratic control in Congress have largely been without incident. As of yet, no major corruption, scandals, or blatant lies have surfaced. After years of corruption under a Republican majority, honesty and integrity seem to have finally returned to the halls of Congress.
But Democrats are asking that Americans be patient.
